String Pull Theory with a Difference! Don’t panic, I have not suddenly decided to start blogging about Physics. No, today is another of those projects where I jump on a passing Bandwagon. This time it is String Pull Cards.
String Pull Cards
I have seen a number of cards made with this Technique and I am fascinated by it. Time to give it a go then. Now, here’s the thing though. As I was filming the video a silly thing happened. ‘So what’s new?’ I hear you say. Well in this case, it was my own fault (as it usually is). My memory card got to breaking point. And guess what, I have not redone the video, added an extra bit on at the end or any of that good stuff. It just runs out. I am actually OK with that. All you miss is me sticking two bits of card together. I think you will survive!
But the most important thing is the technique, and you get to see that fully. Although I have only done this a couple of times, I have a few tips already. First, do NOT use an Aqua Painter to help you get the string full of colour, the ink could end up in the barrel! Do NOT get the string too wet, it works best with ‘wet’ rather than ‘dripping’ string. It is a PERFECT way to use up retired Baker’s Twine. Soak your Baker’s Twine before adding the colour, it will absorb quicker. Use two pieces of card, one on top of the other (rather than card and a scrap), this gives you two finished ‘pictures’ for one. Two colours of ink are better than one. Unless you like getting stained hands, wear gloves.
The sentiment came from Love What You Do. I used watered down Brusho and Shimmery White for my cards, but slightly diluted re-inker would work too and would give you a wider range of colours to use. There are some amazing results using black, so don’t limit yourself. I really hope you give it a go and would love to see the results. Why not post them in my community FaceBook Group, Old Stables Crafty Hangout. This group is open to everyone and all crafts, so why not check it out now!
